Mission

The Advanced Institute for Ethical Technology (ai-et) explores emergent technology in the areas of research, curriculum, and community engagement.

In collaboration with a team of faculty fellows, we:

  • produce and disseminate research around emergent technologies;
  • develop curriculum that invites students and faculty to wrestle with the ethical dilemmas around emerging technology and the implications for our understanding of knowledge, intelligence and consciousness; and
  • co-create and host community engagement opportunities that place students and faculty into conversation with the broader community of Silicon Valley.

For the 2026-27 academic year, we have kicked off an ai-et Speaker Series sponsored by Adobe, collaborated with the Campus Reading Program to pair Tech Movie Nights with discussions of the stories in Isaac Asimov's I, Robot, applied for a $500K grant from the Mellon Foundation, and initiated a bi-monthly Tuesday Tech Transmissions newsletter that curates current developments in ethical technology, including the growth of AI, as well as promoting our programming.
